We have a 12 Month Fixed Term opportunity in Whānau Ora.

The Whānau Ora Navigator (Kaiārahi) is a trusted partner and advocate for whānau, walking alongside them as they determine their own pathways to wellbeing. The role is grounded in the Whānau Ora approach, a kaupapa Māori method that recognises the strength, potential, and aspirations of whānau. Kaiārahi enable whānau to plan for their future, access the resources they need, and take meaningful steps toward greater self-management, interdependence, and ora. Kaiarahi engage and support all whānau to realising their goals and navigate systems, to create tailored plans and support progress toward short, medium and long-term outcomes.

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is a whānau-focused, Iwi mandated, kaupapa Māori health and social services organisation. We have been supporting our whānau me hapori to achieve their aspirations and general wellbeing for more than 39 years.  Underpinning our success as an organisation are our values: Kotahitanga, Whakamana, Kaitiakitanga and Whanaungataunga, which are woven through everything we do. 

The successful applicant will have experience and ability to connect with families in all situations to empower and awhi them along their whanau ora journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusted relationships with whānau and maintain strong service provider relationships, centred on whānau needs.
  • Identify strengths and aspirations using structured tools to co-create action plans aligned with whānau goals, Whānau Ora Pou and linking whānau to services, supports, and community networks..
  • Apply appropriate tikanga in all engagement with whānau to ensure culturally safe and respectful practice.  Manaakitanga and whanaungatanga-based support.
  • Accurately document whānau progress and engagements. 
  • Meet all reporting requirements within agreed timelines and contribute to continuous quality improvement

Key Competencies and Attributes 

  • Deep understanding and commitment to the Whānau Ora approach 
  • Proven ability to work with whānau in a mana-enhancing, non-judgemental, and supportive way 
  • Skilled in whānau planning, goal setting, and progress tracking 
  • Strong community connections, especially within Māori networks 
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills 
  • Computer literate and familiarity with data and client management systems, or willingness to learn 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Experience in whānau-centred practice, social services, health, education, or community development 
  • Appropriate skills, knowledge and experience working within a whanau ora similar kaupapa 
  • Understanding of systemic barriers faced by whānau and ability to navigate solution
  • Experience writing case notes and monthly reports
  • Knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga Māori
  • Full Driver’s license
