Health Educator
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about giving tamariki the best start in life. If you care about child development, love connecting with people, and enjoy promoting health and wellbeing of māmā and pēpi, this role is for you.
As a Tamariki Ora Kaiawhina, you’ll work alongside a registered Tamariki Ora Nurse to support whānau through education and health promotion, helping pēpi thrive from the very beginning. This role visits whānau across the wider Heretaunga areas from Tutira to inland Heretaunga right out to our coastal communities, making scheduled visits to ensure tamariki are meeting their development milestones. And whānau are receiving the support, education and resources they need for their tamarik to thrive.

About the Role:
- Support the delivery of the Tamariki Ora programme through health promotion and education
- Support universal contact checks and discretionary checks in consultation with Tamariki Ora Nurse.
- Promote and support the Tamariki Ora Service and ensure whanau and community are informed about the service and its importance to the health and wellbeing of Tamariki.
- Document all Tamariki Ora contacts in the electronic health record (Indici)
- Provide education and support services
- Assist with access and referrals in the following areas: Breastfeeding, Dental education, Pepi development & ECE
The ideal candidate for this role would be someone who:
- Enjoys working with whānau, pēpi and tamariki
- Has lived experience with your own tamariki
- Understands early childhood development stages
- Supports safe sleeping, nutrition, smokefree, immunisations, dental care
- Has the ability to motivate, educate and empower whānau
- Is computer literate
- Have proven experience working effectively within the community
- Is able to work well as part of an integrated team - happy to help out where needed
- Is kaupapa and values driven
Essential skills and qualifications include:
- A Full driver’s licence
- Tertiary qualification in Health and Wellbeing, Hauora or similar
- Knowledge and understanding of tikanga and Te Reo Maori
- A First Aid certificate would be advantageous.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm.
