Social Worker - Whānau Ora
We have a Fixed Term opportunity in our Whānau Ora team until 30 June 2026 for a registered Social Worker to join our team. This role brings professional expertise and oversight to the kaupapa Māori approach of Whānau Ora, supporting both whānau with more complex needs and our Kaiārahi (Navigators) through informal guidance and coaching.
You’ll work alongside nine Kaiārahi and report to the Kaiārahi Lead, holding a client base of your own while contributing to team capability through day-to-day advice and occasional training support.

About the Role
In this role you will:
- Provide skilled social work support to whānau who are at the beginning of their aspirations journey, often with complex needs or facing significant barriers
- Offer informal professional guidance and advice to Kaiārahi across day-to-day practice
- Contribute to team learning and development through coaching and occasional training sessions
- Collaborate closely with Kaiārahi, the Kaiārahi Lead, and wider service partners to ensure integrated, culturally grounded support
- Maintain accurate case notes, progress reports, and meet all reporting requirements
- Proactively build networks and generate own referrals to effectively connect whānau with supports and opportunities.
What You’ll Bring
- A Social Work qualification
- 3+ years of experience in Social work
- Strong understanding of the Whānau Ora approach
- Experience working in whānau-centred, kaupapa Māori contexts
- Proven ability to work effectively with whānau facing complex challenges in a mana enhancing way
- Confidence to share your expertise with others, and model good practice
- Sound understanding of Te Ao Māori, Tikanga, and Te Reo Māori (or commitment to develop)
- Excellent relationship building and communication
- Full, clean driver’s licence
