Health Promotion Rheumatic Fever [ 20 hours Fixed Term till June 27]

We are looking for a Kai Ararau – Health Promoter to provide education and support regarding Rheumatic Fever [RF] across the region.

Rhematic Fever 

RF is a complex condition that can have lifetime complications. In NZ the majority of first-time hospitalisations are school age Tamariki and Rangatahi between 4 – 19 years old disproportionally impacting Māori and Pasifika whanau. National data shows that in 2023/2024 period cases of RF increased. We want to change that.

 Whakapiki Oranga Manawa initiative

Whakapiki Oranga Manawa is a new initiative focused on raising awareness about prevention and management of RF. This purpose of this role is to travel around the region working with other health providers and marae to increase knowledge and awareness about Rhematic Fever – what it is and how to prevent it.
Our Service

Working as part of the Taiora Community team based at Taiwhenua’s large Health and Social Services site in Hastings, you will be part of a wider team who also work in various Health Promotion/Educator roles from pre and post Natal Support, Smokefree, Parenting and Kaumatua support services. 

This is a part-time role 20 hours a week - 8.30am to 2pm, 4 days a week for a fixed term till 30 June 2027.
*As part of the role you will also need to be able to travel around the region and stay one night overnight to attend various events approximately once a month.

The Role 

· Actively promote awareness and risks of RF with various community groups and events.

· Work with the Team and other TToH services to identify promotional opportunities to increase whānau awareness.

What we are looking for:

· Proven experience working effectively within the community

· A confident communicator

· Passionate about health and wellbeing and RF prevention

· Good understanding of RF and its risks

· A self-starter who is motivated to seek out opportunities to promote and educate whānau

· Knowledge and understanding of tikanga and Te Reo Māori or a willingness to embrace

· Ideally a Level 4 Health Promotion qualification or similar

· A Full and current Driver’s licence
