Health Promotion Rheumatic Fever [Fixed Term till 30th June 2025]

Perhaps you and your whanau have been impacted by Rheumatic Fever?   Or you are passionate about health and wellbeing and preventing this disease in our tamariki? 

We are looking for a Kai Ararau – Health Promoter to provide education and support regarding Rheumatic Fever [RF].

RF is a complex condition that can have lifetime complications. In NZ the majority of first-time hospitalisations are school age Tamariki and Rangatahi between 4 – 19 years old, disproportionally impacting Māori and Pasifika whanau.  National data shows that in 2023/2024 period cases of RF increased. 

Whakapiki Oranga Manawa is a new initiative focused on raising awareness about prevention and management of RV.  This is a non-clinical, community Educator role working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm.

What you will do

· Facilitate educational sessions to groups and whānau.

· Actively promote awareness and risks of RF with various community groups and events.

· Work with the Team and other TToH services to seek out promotional opportunities to increase whānau awareness.

· Create resources to engage and educate.

· Travel across the region from Waiora to Wairapapa working with other health providers and marae to increase knowledge and awareness about RF.

What we are looking for:

· Have proven experience working effectively within the community

· A confident communicator with facilitations skills

· Passionate about Health and Wellbeing and RF prevention

· Good understanding of RF and its risks

· Self starter who is motivated to seek out opportunities to promote and educate whānau

· Knowledge and understanding of tikanga and Te Reo Māori or a willingness to learn

.Comfortable in Marae settings

· Ideally have a Level 4 Health Promotion or similar

· A full and current Driver’s license

· A current First Aid Certificate is advantageous

. Must be able to travel and some overnight stays may be required
