Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga – Rimutaka Prison

Are you interested in supporting people to make positive changes in their lives?

The role involves guiding and supporting Tane following their Drug Treatment Programme (DTP), either while still in Prison, transferring to another Prison or being released.

Navigating, counselling, helping connect with whanau and helping Tane build on the mahi they have completed in the programme are all part of this rewarding role.

We are looking for someone familiar with AOD treatment, understands reintegration and the challenges of personal change. You will have knowledge of community support available and can navigate the various agencies and services to the benefit of Tane and whanau.

To be successful in this role, you would:

  • Be someone who enjoys working with people (clients and team members)
  • Be skilled in engagement, facilitation and motivation
  • Have experience in assessing needs and navigating services  
  • Understand or be willing to learn how to work well in a prison environment
  • Be comfortable walking alongside people on their journey
  • Be an excellent listener
  • Have clear professional and personal boundaries

It would be helpful to understand individual and group behaviour, and / or have a relevant tertiary education in psychology, addictions, social work, counselling or education. The Aftercare Worker role requires a minimum of Level 4 certification and/or previous experience in this or similar roles
